Dust and Shadow
Seattle’s Most Opulent Movie Palace…
Built by the Rapp brothers out of Chicago, the Paramount was built many blocks away from the center of Seattle’s theatre district, and the land was no more than a ravine with a creek flowing to nearby Lake Union. However, the building that was constructed was the most spectacular movie palace Seattle had ever seen.
By the 1960s, the Paramount had began to show cinema in order to keep up with the influx of theatre’s that had been built in the 50s.
But the midnight show was still the highlight of this grandiose theatre experience. On special nights the kindred of the city fill the seats to watch the latest viewing “experience” put on by Celestine, madam of culture and excess.
